SiMPLE LEADERSHiP - Intentional Relationship Building

I just 'graduated' from Leadership Roanoke Valley. When we had our graduation dinner, someone in my group said "Stay in touch." When you graduate from something, whether you 'graduate' from a a school, a job, a neighborhood, a city, or some other new start, one of the favorite ways to end the conversation is 'stay in touch'. Too often, I say, "I'll stay in touch"...and I don't.

One of the things that I believe is that Life is about relationships, the rest is just details. However, if I don't focus on the details of initiating, building, and maintaining relationships, then relationships suffer.

And so, here I am. Starting a 'blog'. I don't claim to be an expert on this, so I may miss some of the 'details'. It is my goal with this blog, though, to share my story. It is built with YOU in mind. AND, it is built with ME in mind as well. With this blog, I hope to add value to your life, and in turn, you will respond with things that are on your heart as well.

Why the title "SiMPLE LEADERSHiP"? As I was dreaming this up, I looked on my nightstand at the two books I was currently reading and took a word from each. I will discuss the books more in the future. Those who know me well can probably guess one of the authors! You also know that leadership development and focus (aka, simple) are core values I live by.

If you are reading this, you have made an impact on my life in a positive way. It is my hope that you will 'stay in touch' by reading it. If you are moved, respond to it by clicking on the envelope or the 'comments' below. If you want to keep getting it, subscribe to it by clicking on 'Posts' below.

I want to be more 'intentional' at keeping in touch. This is just one tool for me to do that.

Question(s) for action:

  • Who in your life have you committed to 'stay in touch' with?

  • What are you doing, iNTENTiONALLY, to build that relationship...one small detail at a time?

Your friend, John Gallagher

Imagine yourself on a tropical island, perfect weather, a clear blue ocean, wonderful food, and a house you could get lost in.

Imagine all that and you're alone. How long will you be happy?

Nothing works without relationships, the more the better, the more positive and healthy, the happier we are.

It is not about how much or where, but about who.

Thanks, John, for this forum on a most important topic.

  3. So good to hear from you again. I've said this before, and say it again, you, John, have made a positve impact on my life, and I thank you.

I still stay in touch with former customers and sales people I have met along the way. If nothing else but to share ideas.

    Hi Cousin,

Thanks for including me in your mailing.

It doesn't take much to make me laugh. The funny bone runs in my family.

It makes me cry when I think of my friends and loved ones who do not have a saving faith in Jesus Christ, the relationship of first and last importance. It makes me cry when I try to share the love and redemption of Jesus with them and they don't want to listen. As Paul said in Roman’s 9:2 about his brothers, “I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers.” This is how I feel every day about my loved ones who have not accepted Christ.

I dream about my loved ones embracing eternal life that comes from faith in Christ, so they will be my family for more than a few more decades. I dream of the Lord's return. His coming in the clouds, collecting the dead and living in Christ, giving us new, perfect bodies, and an eternity to be with him. I dream about my kids and their accomplishments to come in this life, but those dreams are dwarfed by my dreams that they will come to a true and saving faith in Christ. To me other dreams and hopes are good, but dwarfed by hope in the Lord. To me, in comparison to salvation in Christ and all of its ramifications, nothing else really matters.

    Love you cousin,

    Kathy
